“I ask that my mortal remains may rest in the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, awaiting the day of the resurrection.” The final wishes of Pope Francis in his will, written in Santa Marta on 29 June 2022, were published by the Vatican press office this evening following the Holy Father’s death.
“Miserando atque Eligendo. In the name of the Holy Trinity. Amen. Feeling that the end of my earthly life is approaching and with a lively hope in Eternal Life, I wish to express my will only with regard to the place of my burial. I have always entrusted my life and my priestly and episcopal ministry to the Mother of our Lord, Mary Most Holy."I wish that my last earthly journey will end precisely in this ancient sanctuary where I went to pray at the beginning and end of each Apostolic Journey to entrust my intentions to the Immaculate Mother and thank her for her obedient and maternal care."I request that my tomb be prepared in the niche of the side nave between the Pauline Chapel and the Sforza Chapel of the aforementioned Papal Basilica as shown in the attachment. The tomb should be in the ground. Simple, without special decoration and with the only inscription: “Franciscus”

“The expenses for the preparation of my funeral will be covered by the amount of a charity that I have arranged,” Bergoglio writes, “to be transferred to the Papal Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore and for which I have given the necessary instructions to Monsignor Rolandas Makrickas, Extraordinary Commissioner of the Liberian Chapter.
Although the day has come to an end, no message of condolence has arrived from the Israeli government or from its Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
“He was an extremely problematic pope for the Jewish world. A pope who reawakened some problems in the relationship between Judaism and Christianity that we have felt very much, especially after October 7, with his statements,” said Alexander Meloni, the chief rabbi of the Jewish community of Trieste.
Pope Francis has often condemned the Israeli attacks on Gaza. He has called the killing of innocent children and civilians an atrocity and a crime against humanity. The pope has often been accused by the Jewish world for his positions
“May God grant the deserved reward to those who loved me and will continue to pray for me.
